This chapel was founded by the bachelor Alfonso Ruíz de
Medina, a clergyman from the city of Segovia. Years later, in 1579 he made a
will before Sebastián Benavente in the monastery of Nuestra Señora de La
Merced. In a letter, he mentions the chaplain of this chapel and his brother,
Garcí Ruiz de Castro, "my brother and Mrs. Elvira Falconi, his wife,
remaining a widow."
In 1610 it was already mentioned as a chapel "of the
column". In this chapel the bachelor Garcí Ruiz de Castro is buried,
having as patron José Sanz de Cantalejo.
In 1729 Diego Ochoa Ondátegui, Ignacio de la Cruz and Eugenio de la Cruz, residents of this city, whitewashed the chapel for 360 reales. On this same date, important interventions are carried out, such as the arching of the vault of the chapel for 22 reales.
In the chapel there is a beautiful 17th century altarpiece
with the image on canvas of a Christ known as “Christ of the Blood”.
On the sides of the chapel are the beautiful images of Maria's parents, Santa Ana teaching her daughter, Mary, to read; and San Joaquín taking care of her daughter, Mary. Anonymous author
