Special mention should be made of the baroque chapel of Nuestra SeƱora de la Paz, one of the most significant in the city of Segovia. It stands out for its pronounced baroque style, visible on the main altar, the plasterwork on the roof and the collection of pictures, inspired by cartoons by Rubens, with an interesting iconographic program on the Mystical Press and the presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
This
chapel was the room of the Slavery of the Blessed Sacrament that arises from
the great devotion of the faithful to the Blessed Sacrament in the parish of
San Miguel, undoubtedly associated with the brotherhood of La Minerva and the
expenses it had for wax.
“Seeing
the devotees that the Blessed Sacrament leaves 12 times a year which is on the
third Sunday of the month and His Majesty leaves through the main square like
Corpus Christi day and attending to the great expenses that the Minerva
brotherhood has, they want to its cost support each one with a white wax ax and
accompany the Blessed Sacrament on the 12 holidays and tour the parish on
Friday of Corpus Christi, the main festival of the Minerva ”.
With this
objective, the Slavery of the Blessed Sacrament was founded and this chapel was
built. The first ordinances were approved by Bishop Don Melchor Moscoso y
Sandoval on February 20, 1632.
